Ways to Help in Times of Grief

Grief is a natural and complex response to loss. It may follow death, the end of a relationship, a major life change, or another significant loss. Sadness, anger, guilt, loneliness, fatigue, appetite changes, and sleep disruption can all be part of grieving.

Ways to Support Yourself Through Grief

  1. Allow yourself to feel without demanding a particular timeline.
  2. Talk with someone you trust.
  3. Write your thoughts and emotions down.
  4. Create a memory or ritual that honors what or who you lost.
  5. Prioritize basic self-care.
  6. Connect with people who understand.
  7. Find meaning through service, creativity, faith, community, or another source that fits you.
  8. Give yourself time.
  9. Seek professional support if grief becomes overwhelming or significantly interferes with functioning.
