There are days when feeling low, exhausted, or overwhelmed can make getting out of bed feel nearly impossible. On those days, self-care may need to become smaller and gentler.
- Practice self-compassion. Notice the urge to criticize yourself and respond with more kindness.
- Reach out for support. Contact a trusted person or mental health professional.
- Use low-effort self-care. Try slow breathing, gentle stretching, or another small regulating activity.
- Listen to music or a podcast. A little outside input can shift attention.
- Write something down. A few sentences can help externalize what you are feeling.
- Create a comforting environment. A favorite scent, blanket, light, or sound may make the space feel easier to tolerate.
- Notice one thing that matters. Gratitude does not erase pain, but it can gently widen your attention.
If low mood, hopelessness, or difficulty functioning is persistent or worsening, consider reaching out for professional support. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, seek emergency/crisis support.
